Breakfast Donuts (Makes 1 dozen)

Even when the cupboard and refrigerator are almost bare, you may have the ingredients on hand for these melt-in-your mouth muffin-style donuts. They are an excellent example of simplicity at its best.

1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 and 1/2 cups flour
1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted

1. In medium mixing bowl, cream together 1/3 cup softened butter with 1/2 cup sugar. Beat in the egg.

2. In separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Add dry ingredients alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture.

3. Fill greased muffin cups 2/3 full of batter.

4. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

5. In small mixing bowl, mix 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon.

6. Immediately after baking, roll donuts in melted butter, then in sugar-cinnamon mixture.

7. Enjoy as soon as possible.
