Cinnamon Candy Apples (Makes 3-4 cups)

These apples are as pretty as they are tasty. Look for the cinnamon candies in the candy aisle as they are less expensive than in the baking section.

1/2 cup sugar
1 cup water
1/2 cup cinnamon imperial candies
6 baking apples like Rome Beauty, Ida Red or Jonathan

1. In a saucepan, cook sugar, water and candies, together for several minutes to make a syrup. Stir frequently.

2. Peel apples, cut into wedges, removing core.

3. Place apple wedges in syrup; cover the pan and cook slowly until tender.

4. Spoon syrup over apples as they cook until apples are tender.

5. Store chilled.

6. Serve as an accompaniment to pork or poultry.
