Turkey Provolone Hero (Serves 8-10)

A hero sandwich is described as a large sandwich filled with meats, cheese and accompaniments.  This recipe gives the basic plan…vary the ingredient list depending on availability and personal choice.

3 ounces reduce-fat cream cheese
2 tablespoons light or regular sour cream
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon prepared horseradish
1 (16-ounce) loaf Vienna or Italian bread
Fresh spinach leaves
1/2 pound thinly sliced cooked turkey
6 ounces thinly sliced provolone cheese
2 medium tomatoes, sliced
1 cup alfalfa sprouts

1. In small mixing bowl, mix together cream cheese, sour cream, mustard and horseradish. Set aside.

2. Cut bread in half lengthwise.

3. Spread cut slides of bread with mustard spread.

4. On bottom half of loaf layer spinach, turkey, cheese, tomato and sprouts.

5. Replace top half of loaf. Hold together with long frill toothpicks, if desired.

6. At serving time, slice into individual servings.
