“Enthusiastic teaching makes learning fun” continues to be one of Deanna Houses’ favorite mottos. Whether she is teaching an adult education class, presenting a workshop for 4-H member or speaking to community groups, she shares her positive living philosophy as she communicates through food.
Deanna is a graduate of University of Wisconsin-Stout and has taught junior high, senior high and adult Home Economics education classes. She is a free lance food writer regularly read in the Kalamazoo Gazette.
She is the author of four cookbooks. Her first cookbook, House Specialties is now out of print after five printings and her second cookbook, More House Specialties, has been retired after three printings. Her third cookbook, Even More House Specialties, went out of print in early 2002. Deanna’s fourth cookbook, House Specialties Encore, sold out in 2007.
In October of 2003, her Web Site www.deannahouse.com was launched. It is now a source of new recipes each month and also her calendar of speaking events.
A native of rural southern Wisconsin, Deanna has spent most of her adult life in southwest Michigan. After living in Portage, Michigan for nineteen years, she and her husband, George, now live in Ada near Grand Rapids, Michigan. They are the parents of two adult children, Paul, a College Chemistry professor and Sara, a Special Education teacher.
